When we relaunched CathNewsUSA in 2011, a friend and colleague of mine, Fr. Mick Kelly SJ,–the head of UCAN (Catholic News Asia)–was my partner in the enterprise. Though his duties at UCAN soon made his continued involvement with CathNewsUSA untenable, we’ve continued to work together on projects as they arose over the past three years.
Global Pulse is Mick’s latest project–and it is one I think our readers should know about. I invite you to read his letter below and click through to the links provided to see what this new “online magazine that brings together five of the world’s leading Catholic publishers” is all about.
As a reader of CathNews USA, I’m sure you’re fully aware that a powerful wind of change is blowing through the Church. It makes this is a perfect moment to launch a major, fresh initiative in Catholic publications, and I’m excited to tell you about it.
Global Pulse is an online magazine that brings together five of the world’s leading Catholic publishers.
Constantly updated with content that will appeal to a predominantly Catholic readership, it will be offered ultimately on a subscription basis. But it will be free throughout October so you can get a good feel for what it has to offer.
Global Pulse will not be a ‘Church publication’ as such, but one that looks at events and people of international significance from a discerning, Catholic perspective.
With news briefs, features, analysis, opinion, reviews and inspirations, its ever changing content will be drawn from five global partners, each with an acknowledged reputation for quality Catholic journalism:
- Commonweal Magazine, New York City
- La Croix, Paris
- eRenlai, Taipei
- Eureka Street, Sydney
- ucanews.com, Bangkok
In addition I’m delighted to announce that Robert Mickens, the acclaimed Rome-based reporter and commentator, will be editor in chief of Global Pulse. He will contribute his celebrated ‘Letter from Rome’ each week and will also bring you exclusive letters and essays from correspondents of the highest caliber, based in all parts of the world.
It all adds up to a truly global selection of incisive, informative and thought-provoking writing which I’m sure you will find engaging and enjoyable.
As an introductory offer, for a limited period only, we are making Global Pulse available for just US$22 for a full year’s access. That’s the same price as a few cups of coffee – yet I hope you will agree it will prove a great deal more stimulating.
Subscribing will be quick and easy once the free month is over. So, you don’t have to make your mind up yet; you’re more than welcome to take a good look around Global Pulse right now, and see what it has to offer you.
