Bible jury convict Oliver executed

Published: November 06, 2009

Texas authorities have executed Khristian Oliver, whose murder conviction became controversial after jurors consulted a Bible to justify his death sentence.

The 32-year-old inmate was pronounced dead eight minutes after lethal drugs began flowing into his arms, News Channel 110 reports.

He used a Bible verse in his last statement. He told the children of his victim, 64-year-old Joe Collins, that he knew that his execution would not give them "the closure" they sought. But he said he wished them "the best."

He said he prayed for them "every day and every night" and offered them "only the warmest wishes."

Then after telling his parents, watching through an adjacent window, that he loved them, he began praying the 23rd Psalm, "The Lord is my shepherd."

He got through several verses before the drugs began to take effect.
