Tastykakes for Dolan, no bagels for Rigali

Published: November 06, 2009

As The Yankees claimed their 27th World Series title so New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan can claim his winnings from Philadelphia Cardinal Justin Rigali: a box of Tastykakes.

He and Archbishop Rigali bet on the game; if the Phillies had won, Dolan would be sending a dozen bagels, USA Today reports. Rigali threatened he had "the cream cheese ready," but the Phils, it seems, weren't.

"Cardinal Rigali ... has exquisite taste in most matters. I just wish he had better taste in baseball teams," Dolan joked.

Tastykake desserts have been made in Philadelphia since 1914.

What's up? Did Our Lord Jesus Christ change his mind or do bishops get a special dispensation now?
