UK Traditional Anglicans vote to accept Pope's offer

Published: November 06, 2009

The UK branch of the Traditional Anglican Communion has voted to accept Pope Benedict's offer of a personal ordinariate.

The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) in the UK voted on October 29 to request that they form part of the proposed Ordinariate, the Telegraph reports citing the Sigma blog.

The TAC UK website reports the following resolution was passed:

"That this Assembly, representing the Traditional Anglican Communion in Great Britain, offers its joyful thanks to Pope Benedict XVI for his forthcoming Apostolic Constitution allowing the corporate reunion of Anglicans with the Holy See, and requests the Primate and College of Bishops of the Traditional Anglican Communion to take the steps necessary to implement this Constitution."

The Assembly also put forward a proposal for Ordinary in Great Britain, namely Bishop Robert Mercer.

The TAC has about twenty parishes in the UK and one in France, the Telegraph says.

  1. This past Oct 30th, marked the 100th anniversary of the Society of the Atonement, "Graymoor" founded by Fr. Paul and Sr. Lurana, an Episcopalian Franciscan commnity, that were received into full communion with Rome by Pope Pius X. Fr. Paul states his dream in 1909. That the Anglican Communion would be recieved into the Catholic church as a "seperate rite." It is Divine Providence that in the month of Oct 2009 that Pope Benedict should invite the Anglicans/Episcoplians into union with Rome as a rite. It is the prayers of so many Friars and sisters of the Atonement, and all Christian in common prayer throughout these 100 years that have made this dream of Fr. Paul and Mother Lurana possible. May the Holy Spirit continue to journey with those, led by the Spirit, to go forward to full communion with Mother church so that "All may be One." My deepest congradulation to the Society of the Atonement, on their 100 Anniversary
